I was invited to the Board of Experts to European Prize of Urban Public Space 2014 (I was member of the board also in 2012).

W listopadowym Znaku mój tekst 'Jestem więc komentuję', zupełnie niezwiązany z głównym nurtem mojej działalności, taki lekko złośliwy literacki (?) komentarz do rzeczywistości, a może (choć to oczywiście zbyt ambitne) rodzaj apelu o opamiętanie...
26.09 - 28.09: Vienna, Austria

Thu, 31 October 2013, 19:00, free entry The transformation from an industrial to a services economy has had a major influence on the urban development of European metropolises over recent decades. Riga has also had to come to terms with the Soviet period and Russian domination in its urban planning. Problems such as out-migration from the inner city and the number of newly constructed offices now standing empty have brought up an array of questions, including that of whether existing architecture and its restructuring should play a greater role when it comes to new office and residential spaces. Similarities and differences between urban planning processes in Eastern and Western Europe over the last 20 years will also be discussed. This event is taking place as part of the EUROPEAN CULTURAL DAYS of the ECB – Latvia 2013. Professor Krzysztof Nawratek, Plymouth University Professor Vanessa M. Carlow, TU Braunschweig Janis Dripe, Architect/Senior Adviser to the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Latvia Professor Jörg J. Kühn, Brandenburg University of Technology Chaired by Oskars Redbergs, Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration (RISEBA), Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design W magazynie Kontakt Adam Ostolski pisze o idei dobra wspólnego, zapowiada Kongres 'Europa Społeczna' a przy okazji wspomina też i o moich ideach. Miło.
It seems my paper will fit better than I though to the conference. Several of these papers seem extremely interesting and very 'architectural'. I am really looking forward for abstracts!
![]() The second year in the row nice comment about our M.Arch programme in Architect's Journal: Mark Pearson reviews Plymouth University’s end of year show There is a freshness and openness to the work produced by the undergraduate units which is largely untainted by the all-too-common infatuation with the latest imagery from journals. However, it is within the work of the upper MArch where the school’s character clearly emerges. Standout unit Krzysztof Nawratek’s unit was supported this year by Michelle Adams from Dalhousie University and based on a huge former tractor factory site in the outskirts of Warsaw. The challenge was to find a ‘middle ground’ between industrial/employment uses and residential uses. Individual projects inhabit different parts of the complex, creating intriguing inserted fragments, rather than forming composed buildings in a conventional sense. Standout students Chris Turner and Daniel Green effortlessly combine food production with smart manufacturing and living, and began with shared contextual research - turning the mapping of power and local territory through time into an intriguing, elegant 3D construction. Both students generate organisations and spaces reminiscent of Cedric Price’s thinking - more ‘structures of possibility’ than buildings. Four weeks of enforced model-making means work has a tectonic spirit and points towards the architect as motivator-enabler, rather than form-giver. In a word Charged Mark Pearson, executive director, Regional Design Support, Design Action More here.
![]() At least for a moment my University seems to be pround of me - the whole webpage about Culture Space Theory's research group publications is filled by my publications. Nice! By the way - the paper published in CLCWeb will be used in Frankfurt in October - November for a very interesting event. More details soon! |
